Directions by train:
Worcester is served by two British Rail train stations, Foregate Street and Shrub Hill - there are regualr services to Worcester from Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Snow Hill, Birmingham Moor Street, Smethwick Galton Bridge and Hereford using London Midland and from London Paddington, Oxford and Reading using Third First Great Western. There is also an infrequent service from Cheltenham, Gloucester and Bristol and a very infrequent direct service from Bath, Salisbury and Brighton.
The majority of trains stop at both Worcester stations, however some do not. Where possible, you should travel to Worcester Foregate Street. If you are travelling to Foregate Street, the following route takes you directly to St George's Lane:
The above route takes around 20 minutes. (Not including pub visits)
However, there are several pubs on the way so it is more likely to take a couple of hours! Firstly, within just a few yards of the station is The Postal Order, Worcester's Wetherspoons pub, then the Saracen's Head then crossing the road is the Cellarbar, The Dragon (GBG), Marwood, Coach and Horses, Lamb and Flag and the Cap n Gown, crossing back over the road is the Talbot before making your way to the Cavalier next door to the ground and, of course there is the "Legends Bar" inside the ground. Also, should you wish to visit Colin Mochrie lookalike, Phil, in the Swan you can continue past Shrubbery Avenue and past the main road turning into St George's Lane North, The Swan is on your right. When returning, simply follow the main road back towards the City Centre and take the second left into St George's Lane North.
If you have time, why not visit the city centre: Simply turn Left out of the train station past the old post office and bookmakers on your left and McDonalds on your right and you come onto the High Street. Other pubs one could visit are the Cricketers, turn right at McDonalds and the pub is on your right hand side, or The Plough which is around a fifteen minute walk through the high street. Turn right when you get to the roundabout (with the Cathedral ahead of you) and the Plough is on your right. I believe both are in the Good Beer Guide.
If you have to alight at Worcester Shrub Hill, here are your options.
If you are short of time or want to go straight to the ground, your best option is to take a taxi, there is a taxi rank directly outside Shrub Hill station.
If you want to walk directly to the ground your best option is:
If you wish to visit the City Centre before going to the ground:
Food and Drink:
There are various pubs and food outlets in the City centre. There are also pubs and food outlets on the main road towards the ground from Foregate Street Station. The nearest pub to the ground is The Cavalier which is approx. 100 yards from the ground. The social Club is open matchdays and is located inside the ground under the stand, everyone is welcome. There are two food outlets in the ground, one opposite the turnstiles and one on the Brookside. ( A third is opened for segregated matches). These serve rat burgers, hot dogs, death chips, and a range of hot and cold coloured waters.
Entrance Fee:
Entrance to the ground is £11 (yes, eleven) for adults and £5 for concessions although children are free when accompanied by an adult. Entrance to the stand is an extra £1. Programmes cost a ridiculous £2.50
